Nike Introdues a New Tiger Commercial

The Masters is quickly approaching (this weekend) and Nike just released a new commercial for the tournament. Overall, the video is a bit disrespectful for a couple of reasons.

By directly addressing Tiger's past actions Nike runs the risk of being portrayed as condoning such conduct for all of the athletes sponsored by the company. Admittedly, Tiger handled his issues since Thanksgiving in just about the classiest way possible. Other athletes would not have come close to handling the situation well. Secondly, Nike brings Tiger's late father into a situation that does not need his presence nor association. The questions asked posed by "Earl" are universal. There is no creativity, no apology, nothing. As many of you have probably felt, the commercial leaves you asking, "What?" It is void of all things constructive. Ultimately, Nike is not in the business of evoking emotions of potential customers, but rather the business of selling sports equipment. I have trouble seeing this commercial achieving any progress, economically or otherwise.
